Each year, before the Mardi Gras season begins, a Prince is voted on and selected to serve for the year. |
| The official Crowning of the Prince happens in November. The Prince selects his Princess at this ceremony. |

The Prince and Princess oversee the Mardi Gras functions for the year and act as the ambassadors for Mardi Gras for the year. They are treated as royalty for the year. |
