The offical duty of the Prinzen Garde, or Prince's Court, is to guard the Prince and Princess and to maintain order at the Mardi Gras festivities. Since most guest are well mannered, their primary function is to escort this year's royalty into and out of the festivities and to add to the fun.

The Prinzen Garde has gone through a few evolutions. The group first started as way for a few friends to become more involved with the Mardi Gras celebrations. These friends continued on for many years until they "retired" in 2000. A new group picked up the responsibilities and have been doing so ever since.
